Pre-IMAC: Signal Processing for Machine Health

Event Details

  • This 1 day pre-IMAC course is presented by Dr. Suri Ganeriwala and Anders Brandt. It will provide you with basics of Machine Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics with an emphasis on signal processing techniques. The objective is to provide tools for developing expertise in analyzing machinery faults and provide an overview of the current trends in diagnostics and prognostics. Topics include an overview of condition monitoring techniques, basics of machine vibration analysis, and different signal processing principles like FFT methods, envelope analysis, amplitude, phase and frequency demodulation, cepstrum and cepstrum editing, order tracking and time synchronous averaging. Rather than giving pure theory, the concepts will be illustrated with diagnostic examples and demonstrations will be provided using SpectraQuest Machinery Fault Simulators. The concept of cyclostationarity with principal application to bearing diagnostics will be presented. The course will cover a range of techniques for bearing diagnostics, shaft/rotor crack as well as for gear diagnostics.
